Dept. of Physics, Assam Don Bosco University, in collaboration with PANE, organised an International Conference on Future Prospects in Neutrino and Astroparticle Physics on January 23–24, 2024. The proceedings of the conference was published. Science and Engineering Research Board , Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, sponsored the conference.
The International Conference on Frontiers in Pure and Applied Physics (ICFPAP-2024) was held from 29 February to 2 March 2024 at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM). Organised by the Department of Physics, USTM, in academic collaboration with PANE, the three-day conference provided a dynamic platform for physicists, researchers, and students to engage in scientific exchange and present recent developments across various domains of physics.
The event saw participation from over 250 delegates representing 12 countries, including Japan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Turkey, Spain, Taiwan, and institutions across India. A total of 239 research presentations were delivered, selected from 246 submitted abstracts, covering nine thematic areas. These included 135 oral presentations and 92 poster presentations, with awards and certificates conferred upon outstanding contributions during the valedictory session held at the NKC Auditorium.
As a core academic collaborator, PANE played a significant role in both the planning and execution of the conference, reinforcing its commitment to promoting physics education and research in the North-East. Several members of the PANE Executive Body—Prof. Anurup Gohain Boruah (Executive President) and Prof. Kushal Kalita (General Secretary)—actively participated in multiple sessions, contributing to technical discussions and overall programme coordination.
The conference was inaugurated in the presence of distinguished speakers including Prof. Katsunori Wakabayashi (Kwansei Gakuin University, Japan) and Prof. Kazi Hanium Maria (University of Dhaka, Bangladesh). Plenary and invited talks were delivered by a diverse group of scientists such as Dr. Santanu K. Maiti (Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata), Dr. Debashis Banerjee (VECC, Kolkata), Prof. A. F. Santos (Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, Brazil, online), Dr. Ali Ovgun (Eastern Mediterranean University, Turkey, online), and Prof. Pankaj A. Joshi (Ahmedabad University, online), among others.
The local organising committee, led by Dr. Nitu Borgohain (Chairperson, ICFPAP-2024 and Head of the Department of Physics, USTM), with support from Dr. Mayuri Devi and Dr. Faizuddin Ahmed, coordinated the academic and logistical arrangements. The Book of Abstracts was released during the inaugural session.
PANE’s involvement in ICFPAP-2024 underscores its sustained efforts to create research opportunities and strengthen academic collaboration within the North-East. The event also aligned with broader national objectives such as promoting outcome-based research and encouraging indigenous technological development. Overall, the conference served as a valuable platform for interdisciplinary engagement and academic enrichment in the field of physics.
